The Latino Cancer Control Task Force (LCCTF) is a group of volunteers working to help Latinos in Rhode Island stay healthy by fighting cancer. We started in 2006 because we saw that Latinos face many challenges when it comes to learning about and getting care for cancer.
Cancer is the leading cause of death for Latinos in our state. That’s why we work hard to teach people about how to prevent cancer and catch it early. We believe that when people have the right information, they can make choices that save lives. At LCCTF, we provide education, resources, and support in a way that respects Latino culture and traditions.
Our mission is to lower the number of people in the Latino community affected by cancer. We do this by teaching about prevention, early detection, and providing support to those who need it.
LCCTF runs two main programs to help our community:
The Esperanza Monthly Support Group: This is the only cancer support group in Rhode Island that is held in Spanish. It’s a safe place where patients and caregivers can talk about their experiences, support each other, and learn together. Meetings happen on the second Tuesday of every month at the Providence Health Center, 355 Prairie Ave.
The Annual Dinner Conference: "Latinos, Let’s Talk About Cancer": This big event brings people together to talk about how to prevent cancer, get diagnosed, and find treatment. It’s all in Spanish and focuses on making sure everyone feels welcome and understood.
Many Latinos face problems like not speaking the same language as their doctors, cultural differences, or not knowing where to find help. LCCTF works to remove these barriers by creating programs that are made especially for our community. Together, we can make sure that more Latinos in Rhode Island live healthy lives.
Join us in the fight against cancer and help us bring hope to those who need it most. You can attend our events, volunteer with us, or help spread the word. Every little bit makes a difference.
